Special Weather Statement issued March 3 at 2:54PM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
Relative humidity is below 25 percent across most of the western Carolinas this afternoon. While winds are expected to be light and temperatures still on the cool side of normal, dry vegetation due to lack of recent rainfall combined with the dry air will once again result in increased wildfire danger in Upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina.
Across Upstate South Carolina, an outdoor burning ban from the South Carolina Forestry Commission remains in effect. A State Forester's Burning Ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, and campfires in all unincorporated areas of the state. The burning ban will stay in effect until further notice.
Although relative humidity will be higher during the day Tuesday, temperatures will be warmer and winds will be stronger during the afternoon. The likelihood of precipitation remains near zero in most of the area until Tuesday evening, so fuel moistures will remain dry. Following coordination with forestry officials in both North and South Carolina, a statement for Increased Fire Danger is being issued for Tuesday also.
