Canceled 5/24/22 6:00 PM Flood Advisory issued May 24 at 12:15PM EDT until May 24 at 6:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT... Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE... A portion of west central Virginia, including the following county and independent cities, City of Roanoke, City of Salem and Roanoke. * WHEN... Until 600 PM EDT. * IMPACTS... Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1209 PM EDT, Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches was common across the Roanoke River basin and its tributiers last night and early this morning. This has resulted in excessive runoff of rainfall into area creeks, streams, and rivers. Minor flooding is occurring or is expected to occur along the upper portion of the Roanoke River generally from Glenvar to Salem to downtown Roanoke. Other creeks and streams in the area, such as Mason Creek, Tinker Creek, and Back Creek may also rise to minor flood this afternoon for a few hours. Low- lying and normally flood prone, poor drainage areas will be subject to minor flooding through the afternoon and early evening until water levels have a chance to recede. - Glenvar, Salem, downtown Roanoke are some of the locations most likely to experience flooding. This includes the following streams and drainages... Carvin Creek, Buffalo Creek, Back Creek, Big Bear Rock Branch, Brake Branch, and Mason Creek. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Roanoke... Salem... Vinton... Catawba...
