Continued dry conditions will lead to an increased risk of dangerous fire growth today. Relative humidity values of 25 to 35 percent will be common this afternoon across the area east of the mountains, with values in the 40 to 50 percent range over the mountains. Winds are also expected to increase from the southwest, with gusts of 15 to 20 mph possible during the afternoon. The dry air, combined with low fuel moisture and gusty winds will allow fires to develop easily and spread more quickly than usual.
The state of North Carolina has issued a state wide burn ban.
