...Flood Advisory In Effect for Western Grayson County until 545 PM EDT This Evening...

* WHAT...
Minor flooding caused by repeated heavy rainfall.

* WHERE...
Grayson County in southwest Virginia.

* WHEN...
Until 545 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...
Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 243 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges a persistent cluster of showers and a few thunderstorms with heavy rainfall drifting northward into southwestern Grayson county during the past hour. This rainfall combined with the past several days of rainfall will increase the threat for flooding in the advisory area. Prior to the current rainfall, between 1.0 and 2.5 inches of rain fall in this region and additional rain fell in parts of this same area in prior days. The rain this afternoon combined the past several days of heavy rainfall could very well lead to flooding.
- This ADvisory includes the following streams and drainages...
Big Horse Creek, Helton Creek, Bear Branch, Guffey Creek, Little Helton Creek, Bridle Creek, Grassy Creek, Fox Creek, Middle Fox Creek and Little Wilson Creek.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
